DEBORAH RUSSELL

WELCOME

Hello, I’m Deborah Russell and welcome to my wildlife photography website.

I am a nature and wildlife photographer based in London, UK.  I am passionate about capturing and sharing the beauty of our planet's nature and wildlife through photography.  Having travelled the world, I am focused on ethical, truly wild (no-baiting) photography encounters which capture a sense of place, species interactions and tells a story that gives a voice to the voiceless.  My goal is one of continuous improvement in my work, to encourage people to care and connect with nature more, and to be curious enough to support ethical wildlife practices and conservation efforts at home and away.

I have always loved to travel and spend time in the great outdoors exploring, diving, hiking, skiing etc.  However, my photography journey started when I took a year’s sabbatical from my corporate job and travelled to Asia, North and South America, Africa, Europe and the Indian & Pacific Oceans.  It was on my first African safari that year that a strong bond between African wildlife and photography was forged and an insatiable curiosity to learn more about species’ behaviours, habitats and how to improve upon my basic photographic skills.

“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.”

ALBERT EINSTEIN

Fast forward to today and my journey of continuous improvement evolves to photograph wildlife ethically, respectfully and honestly.  Immersion in nature and wildlife has brought me a deeper connection to our marvellously diverse world and its’ ability to emotionally move and surprise you … from a female brown bear tenderly nursing her spring cubs, a young leopard learning how to climb a tree, to cheetah cubs being taught how to hunt by their mother.

There is so very much we can learn and marvel at from nature, whether that be in your backyard or further afield, if we just have the patience to quietly observe its beauty.  Turning a moment in the wild into a perfect shot that tells a story and makes us all care a little bit more, is my ambition.
