LONDON CALLING
October is a frantic and exhausting time for the red deer that have roamed freely in Richmond Park since 1637. It is the mating season and the stags are full of testosterone which makes them extremely aggressive to any male rivals after their many hinds. I had arrived before dawn to a cacophony of barking and roaring stags in full rut as they try and keep their hinds from straying and away from any young male challengers. This agitated male was pacing back and forth to his small group of hinds to follow him across a drainage channel after several efforts to herd them over. I saw an opportunity that if he stopped in the the meadow path, he would be perfectly framed by fence posts with dreamy meadow mist against a golden sky and outline of the residential flats. I quickly dropped to the ground to capture the leading lines of the path and golden background as he roared to his small harem of hinds.
